The Big Three: How to Choose a Wedding DJ
The entertainment at your wedding is key in making your guests have the best possible time on your big day. Since the “entertainment” portion of your wedding is approximately 75% of the whole experience, don’t you want to get this right? To help ensure that you are getting exactly what you are looking for, here are the three most important things to consider when booking your wedding DJ:
1) Meet with your actual DJ in person: There are many great DJ companies to consider out there. But the fact is only one DJ is going to show up on your special day. As you are meeting with DJ companies, ask if you can meet your specific DJ in person before booking so you can ensure a good fit. Run from anyone who doesn’t allow you access to your guy/girl….you’ll be glad you did!
2) Be involved in the process: Simply stated, the more you put in, the more you get out. It is essential for a DJ to not only know you personally, but to have a clear and exact understanding of your vision. Your DJ should be instrumental in helping you plan your reception. By ensuring this, you will squeeze every possible ounce of awesomeness out of your entertainer. The worst thing you can do is book your DJ and then not speak to him/her again until the week of your event. Be involved. Have regular meetings. E-mail ideas back and forth and ASK QUESTIONS. We, as entertainers, have done this hundreds of times and you only get to plan your wedding once so leave no stone unturned.
3) Ask yourself, “How will my guests remember my wedding?” Wedding receptions get expensive as the little things keeping adding to the bottom line. Table settings, centerpieces, flowers, candles, chair covers, photo booths etc., are all things that need to be figured into your budget. Though all of these things are important to setting the mood for your night, what are people really going to remember about your reception when they wake up the next morning, or five years down the road? Do you want them saying, “That was the most fun time I have ever had at a wedding!” If so, make sure you’re not just going with the cheapest option when selecting your DJ. As with everything else, you will get what you pay for.
This is one of the most fun and fantastic moments of your life and your reception should reflect that. Make sure to think about “The Big Three” when ultimately deciding on your DJ. At GenerationNOW we make sure to nail all of these points so that our clients, and their guests, leave with a “WOW!”
