Wedding Spotlight 5/9/2015 – Lafayette Club, Minnetonka, MN

This week our wedding spotlight shines on a very high bar wedding at which we performed last weekend. It was beautiful day in Minnetonka, MN at the Lafayette Club and the mood was bright as guests arrived to the reception venue. The first highlight of the evening was the cocktail hour. The bride/groom hired a live harpist, which was a great touch and a very unique way to provide the background track to beginning of the evening.

Next the party transitioned into the ballroom for dinner. Once the guests were seated the bride/groom entered the room to the modern classic “Marry You” by Bruno Mars which helped set the tone for the rest of the evening. We feel that it is important to maintain a high level of sophistication at a wedding while also letting your guests know that they are allowed to have fun. Putting in some lighthearted danceable music for your grand march is a great way to do this.

Once, dinner and speeches had concluded it was time to dance! Undoubtedly a DJ’s favorite part of the night was amplified by one of the most unique first dance song choices by the bride/groom, “If I Lose Myself” by One Republic ft. Alesso. I learned a little something here, and that was that people shouldn’t be afraid to be themselves during their first dance. I also learned that it is entirely possible to slow dance to a 125 bpm electronic dance song and have it be cool…so do whatever you heart desires!

The rest of the dance popped off all night and told a story of classic wedding music from the 50’s/60’s to the hottest current EDM jams of 2015, and everything in between. By the time the final song was over all of the guests were still on the floor roaring in admiration of the newly wedded couple…this is how we know we have done our jobs well! Ultimately a wedding day is all about creating lasting experiences and memories for everyone, all while celebrating a commitment made by two people to spend the rest of their lives together creating more memories.
